The RPC

A removable pump case to make the job just a little easier.

Introducing the “We’ll Think of a Name for This Later” Removable Protective Case (RPC) for the Sapphire branded IV pumps.  We’ve all dropped these things way more than we’re willing to admit to management and they’re stupid expensive to fix/replace.  The case is designed to act as a second shell protecting it from scratches, falls and the occasional drop kick off a helipad by a frustrated crew member.  Like any case, its not going to protect it from everything, but it gives the pump a fighting chance at surviving.  We also gave the case a large lip that goes around the screen because when you drop these pumps they always seem to land on the screen.

but wait there's more!

The RPC has some other features that we think will be popular.  The loops at the top and bottom can be used to secure the two halves together with just about anything that you have laying around (IV tubing, bread tie, carabiner).  If you use a carabiner to secure the two halves, it allows you to hang the pump up on an IV pole while you’re trying to set everything up at the bedside.  There’s a post on the side that can be used to hang a bag of fluids from or use an adapter that slips on so you can attach a syringe (or store syringes so you don't lose them during transport).

3D printed pump case

How many times have you had a critical patient with multiple drips going, the IV tubing has turned into a gigantic knot and now your levo is beeping because the new guy let air get in the line.  Great…

Quick!  Find the other end of the tubing.

Did that last pic make your OCD explode?

Is it easier now?

Ideally, you would use different colors on every RPC so that each line is uniquely color coded.

Serious part

Safety should be on the top of everyone's priority list.  These are cases, not mounts.  You should always use a proper mount when possible or secure it with a belt when in a moving vehicle.

Heat

This our first version of the RPC and they're all printed in PLA (type of plastic).  The big issue is that when you get to "Oh dear Lord I'm going to die it's so hot in here" temperatures, the shell may get soft and could deform if they're hanging up (they should be fine if the air is on).  If they're sitting in your vehicle not in direct sunlight, they should be fine as the danger temp is around 50 C.  Don't leave them hanging in a vehicle or hanging anywhere its going to get ridiculously hot.  Temps this high aren't good for the lithium batteries inside them anyways.

We're working on a version 2 capable of surviving higher temps.  If you have any questions, please ask!!
